How to Buy Penny Stocks: A Beginner's Checklist
Before you place a single order, get the mechanics right — they matter more than any pick.
Most beginner mistakes in penny stocks aren't about stock picking at all. They're about mechanics: how you buy, how much, and how you exit.
1. Pick a broker that handles OTC
Not every broker lets you trade OTC or pink-sheet names, and some charge added fees. Confirm before you open an account.
2. Understand the spread
Thin stocks can have wide bid-ask spreads. That gap is a real cost you pay the moment you trade.
3. Use limit orders, not market orders
A market order on a thin stock can fill far from the last price. Set your price and be patient.
4. Size positions for total loss
Treat every speculative position as money you can afford to lose. Sizing is the only risk control you fully control.
5. Write your exit before you enter
Decide your target and your stop in advance — so the decision isn't made by adrenaline.
